A graduate member of the Tomahawk High School Class of 1962, active in football, track and basketball.
Don earned eight letters (three in football, three in track and 2 in basketball). He was a two time All Conference athlete in football as Honorable Mention as a junior at fullback and first team as a senior on defense. He was most remembered for his track accomplishments his senior year as he earned All Conference first team in both the shot and discus. He threw the disc 151’ 9” and the shot put 47’ 7 ¾”. His best shot put effort was 49’ 10” but conference records were only established at the conference meet. Don also was a sectional champion in the shot put with a toss of 48’.
At state he became Tomahawk’s first individual state champion in any sport. He won the shot put competition with a heave of 49’ 1 ¼”.
In addition to the above honors Don was selected as team captain in football his senior year and was also voted most valuable player by his teammates for his efforts on the football field.
