A graduate member of the Tomahawk High School Class of 1957, active in football, basketball and baseball all four years, earning ten major and two minor letters.
Jon Devenport earned four All-Conference honors in both football and basketball. He was Second Team All-Conference at quarterback and Second Team All-Conference at right halfback as a junior in football. In basketball, he was Second Team All-Conference as a junior and senior. Jon was voted as team captain four times as team captain in football as a senior, co-captain in basketball as a senior and captain in baseball as a junior and senior.
Not only did he excel in athletics, Jon was a leader at Tomahawk High School serving as class president during his junior and senior years and a member of both band and the Lettermen’s Club all four years.
After high school, Jon attended St. John’s University, in Collegeville, MN. During his freshman year at St John’s, he played football for John Gagliardi. Following graduation in 1961 with a BS degree in Sociology, Jon was commissioned to serve in the US Army Military Police Corps. He was on active duty for two and a half years before being discharged in April of 1964.
Jon worked for Sentry Insurance in their data processing center in Stevens Point, WI for five years, then transferred to Willmar, Minnesota to get sales experience. Two years later he separated from Sentry and joined the Hardees Restaurant chain. In 1996, Jon opened his own coffee shop, working there until his retirement in 2008.
Jon and his wife Mary Kay raised four children, Becky of Carver, MN; Jenny of Willmar, MN; Mike of Anchorage, AK and Dan of Mankato, MN. Sadly, Mary Kay passed away on May 31, 2009.
